You will also practice public speaking, learn theme development, lead hikes, and present an activity of your own design to day campers. TEEN BACKCOUNTRY ADVENTURES: AGES 15–17
11 nights, 12 days
Backpack End to End, Isle Royale National Park
June 29 to July 10

Last year’s amazing experience on Isle Royale, which sits 73 miles off the coast of Michigan in Lake Superior, has encouraged us to offer another trip to this unique island. This time, because of popular demand of last year’s backpackers, we are going to see the island from end to end—Windigo to Rock Harbor. We drive up two days before the boat leaves for the island, which gives us enough time to sort gear and do some local sightseeing in the Keweenaw Peninsula—the old stomping grounds of trip leader Dan Keto when he worked for the Baraga State Park. The Ranger III departs from Houghton and we begin our adventure with a 6-hour boat trip to Isle Royale National Park, Michigan’s only National Park. Isle Royale’s remoteness has led to research studies of wolves and moose for over 40 years. We are likely to see moose on the trail. Last year the KNC group heard wolves early one morning. This trip will include 9 days on the island at various breathtaking campsites. The Voyageur II will take us from the Daisy Farm Campsite docks to Windigo, where we start our 40-mile adventure across the Island. See the island in a whole
new way!

Pre-trip meetings are mandatory.
