Animals are the backbone of the farm! For work and for food, they are an important part of a healthy farm. Meet the animals, learn their roles and how the farmer cares for them.   Add on a wagon ride for $25.

Field Lab: Aquatic Ecology

Wade into the waters, search for their residents, and measure their chemistry.  Conduct an experiment to measure flow rate, and observe how a contaminant might drift. Choose to focus on either streams or wetlands in this science-focused exploration.

Study the adaptations of Michigan migratory species of birds, butterflies or bats. Learn field survey methods with KNC Biologists, map migration routes and get a KNC data set for use back in the classroom.  Activities and species vary by season.

Dynamic costumes and activities introduce animal life cycles. Observe live insects and an amphibian, learn how their life cycle stages relate to body structures, and determine whether the young resemble their parents. It's transforming!

Travel back in time to a historic 1850's homestead to learn how settlers used domesticated animals and natural resources to make a life. From cabin to farmhouse, help with seasonal chores, use 19th-century tools, and take part in living history! Activities vary based on season and ages.

Living Lightly with the Earth: First People

Step into the past and visit an indigenous 1700s camp. Get a glimpse of daily life and how a close connection with the environment provided for the family without a grocery store or pharmacy. Explore the camp from the wigwam to the garden, help with the family chores, hear a traditional legend and play with traditional toys and games.

Maple Sugaring: Sap to Syrup

Hike to the sugar bush and learn how a maple forest helps us make liquid gold! Visit the sugar house, smell the sap boiling and taste real Michigan maple syrup. Activities vary based on age.

Discover some of our most important natural resources from water and timber to rocks and minerals. Learn where they come from and how we depend on them. Onsite, focus on how our landscape was formed long ago by glaciers, and what clues to our past we can find in the very rocks around us!

Experience the living stories of four Michigan raptors in our Birds of Prey special. Our animal handlers and educators will take the audience into the minds and habits of four unique birds, and explore how their stories are not so separate from our own. This one hour program is appropriate for classrooms and auditoriums.
