The Farmyard is open daily, Monday-Saturday 10 am - 4 pm, Sunday 1-4 pm.
DeLano Homestead (house) is open Sundays, July 2, 16, and 30, and August 30, 1-4 pm

We are always looking for help on the farm! If you love getting dirty, playing in the soil, hanging with animals and talking to others who share your interest or if you love to walk the quite trails and help us get rid of invasive species in our DeLano woods please contact our Farm Director, Cortney Collia, at Ccollia@naturecenter.org or visit our Get involved page. Farmyard Wednesdays

Farmyard Wednesdays, 10:30 am - Noon

We'll feature a different farm animal each Wednesday from June through September from 10:30 am - Noon.  These fun farmyard programs are for children ages 2-8 and anyone with a love of animals!  $5 program fee per participating child (in addition to regular admission)

July 5: Sheep to Sweater

Sheep are fun, energetic and useful. Explore how we go from animals in the field to the clothes that you wear.

July 12: Dairy Dreams

Cows give us milk and meat, and can help farmers do hard work, too. Learn about and meet these amazing animals.

July 19: Horses and Hooves

Get up close and discover the world of horses on the farm!

July 26: Gallivanting Goats

Goats are playful, mischievous, and useful. Discover the goofy world of goats on the farmyard.
August 2: Green and Growing

Learn all about the plants growing on the DeLano farm! Investigate the different ways these plants are used and the purposes they serve on a farm.

August 9: Dog Days

Dogs play an important role on the farm! Learn about these hard workers and the jobs they do on a farm.

August 16: Fiber Fun

Meet our sheep, goats, and rabbits to learn about the different uses for animal fur!

August 23: Compost Critters

Healthy life comes from healthy soil! But who looks out for the health of the soil? Come learn about worms, beetles and more, and the role they play on a healthy farm.

August 30: Tools of the Trade

Discover some of the many tools farmers use for working on the farm.

Barnyard Story Corner

It’s story time at the farm! Drop in to hear stories about nature. Interactive tools will get children involved. We might even have a visit from one of our farm animals! Meet: DeLano Farmyard, 555 West E Avenue.

Thursday, July 6 and August 3, 5 pm

DeLano Horse-drawn Wagon Rides

Enjoy an evening tour of beautiful DeLano Farms on a wagon pulled by Belgian work horses. Fee: $2/rider, in addition to evening admission fee.

Thursdays, July 20 & August 24, 4 pm

DeLano Farms Tractor Tour

Enjoy a tractor-drawn wagon ride around DeLano Farms! Take advantage of special evening hours at the Farmyard. We will have treats available for purchase for feeding our farmyard animals.

 

Sundays, July 2, 16, 30 & August 13, 1-4 pm

DeLano Open House

Come tour the historic DeLano home! The house will be open and an historic interpreter will be on hand to answer questions. No registration required, just drop in! Meet: DeLano Homestead, 555 West E Avenue.

Mondays, July 10 & August 14, 5:30-6:45 pm

DeLano Cooking Series

Join us the second Monday of each month to taste some fresh farm food! Guest chefs will demonstrate recipes using veggies from our DeLano garden. The July guest is Eric Gillish of Millennium Group, and August guest is Shawn Hagen of BRAVO!. Meet: DeLano Market Barn, 357 West E Avenue.

DeLano Pick & Prep      

July program: Salads • August program: Salsa

Join us in our DeLano vegetable garden! We’ll learn what it takes to grow ingredients for a delicious salad on July 22, and August 19 will focus on salsa. At the end of the programs, you’ll be able to pick a bag of our veggies to try and get some recipes to take home! Fee for each program: $15/members, $20/non-members.  Register at NatureCenter.org or call (269) 381-1574 ext. 0.  Registration and payment required by July 19 for salad program, August 16 for salsa program.
